A Word from the Maestro

I wish my boss would take heed of this advice.

Sleep is for Wankers

It's 3.54 right now and I'm wide awake. Watching New Adventures of Scooby Doo, you know the ones with Scrappy Doo. He was such shit. I feel like the whole day was wasted today. This is what I did:

- Woke up at 8am
- Had pancakes with my brother at the diner across the street
- Took a nap from 11-12.
- Watched Dickie Roberts Former Child Star while eating buffalo wings (jealous?)
- Read extensively about Bullying bosses at the Bullying Institute website
- Read about buzzmarketing since I have been promoted to Marketing Manager last week, but have no training what so ever in marketing, nor do I even understand what my job entails. If my role is to look overwhelmed and confused than I'm doing a bang-up job if I do say so myself.
- Took another nap from 5-6
- Watched "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy". I saw it in the theaters and thought that it was so-so, but rented it again because a part of me wants to really like it. But alas, I think I have to retire to the sad reality that it blows.
- Fell asleep on the floor with my dog's paw over my face.
- Woke up at 3.30am

And now here we are. I bet you're all asleep while I'm writing this. Well, smell you nancy drew. Sleep is for wankers.

Blog Spam as Emotional Rape

There is no greater pain for me than receiving spam comments.

When I hear the ding that heralds the arrival of new email I get all excited. And then it's an extra treat to see that it's an anonymous comment.

Who could it be from? An old friend who has caught wind of my site. Or better yet, a wandering blogger who was so inspired that they had to leave a comment. Could they be a kindred spirit? A soul mate? The One?

And then I read crap like this:

I don't want to read about immigration. But Canadian immigration? You just signed your own death warrant Sonny Jim. If you ever swing by again...(shakes fist in air menacingly)

This doesn't even make sense to me. What does it mean to be able to "secret shop"? If I ever had to need to shop surreptitiously, then I'll click on your link. But until that day comes, I'm going to buy my goods out in the open the way good Christian folk do.

Maybe I'm naive. But I just want you to know, whoever you may be, that you've broken my heart.

Who likes their appetites whetted?

I've started a new blog. It might be about you. You never know...come and find it. I dare you.

Just so you can get your bearings

This is where I live.

Home

Get your corporate infrastructure on!

I was "promoted" this week. I'm now the Marketing Manager for the company that I work at. To inaugurate myself into this new position, I decided to switch desks. And I am not the happy occupant of the "back area".

Every office and households has that "back area". Maybe it's where you put that frayed broom, mildewed crunchy mop, or a tangle of extension cords.

So now I sit in front of the fire exit and behind the air conditioner room. Needless to say, the dulcet tones of a 40 year old air system is constantly luring me into Sleepyland.

But, on the bright side I can now pick my nose to my heart's content.

LifeStraw

thumb
LifeStraw is a plastic straw with a built-in filtration system that has been developed and is now realized in several third world nations. Besides filtering out dirt and other sediments, the straw also keeps out certain bacteria and parasites which are the leading cause of death in many of these countries. Powered soley by sucking (which by the way is the same energy source for Brittany Murphy), the straw does not rely on electricity which is often unavailable in most of these countries.

I thought this was a super-awesome invention. Cheap to produce and easily distributed to third world populations. Maybe they'll even come out with crazy bendy straws...you know, for kids!

Animals are people too...wait, huh? Read this anyway.

donate_home
I didn't even think about all the animals that were effected by the disaster in New Orleans (natural and federal) until today. I heard that evacuees were being forced to leave behind their pets. I imagined puppies being pried away from their owners hands and left on the side of the street. Luckily, I checked on www.aspca.org and discovered that was a rumor. While many owners have been separated from their animals during the evacuation process, the pets have been housed in various shelters in the surrounding area. Efforts are being made to insure the well-being of the animals and a computer system is being used to reunite animal and animal lovers. I am sure there are many animals that are still stranded in the flooded city and hopefully rescue efforts are proving successful.

Anyway, I thought this was something interesting to think about and another great way to help out. I will definitely be making a donation.
